The symbols & writing on the back
can be read & understood by the monks.
It adds to the magic of the pendant. The
image looks like a spiral pagoda & is probably
an abstract of a Chaitya or Stupa which represents
the Buddhist universe. Each spire or step represents
a heaven, the uppermost portion being a point which is
supposed to be the highest peak of Mount Sumeru, a mythical
mountain whence the Boddhichitta loses itself in sunya or
nirvana. Full & complete absorption into the absolute
cosmic source. The writing at the bottom is
the monks name & indicates that the time
of his existence was special.
