Beautiful
Buddhist Monk Protection Pendant
This pendant is from a Buddhist temple near Sukothai Thailand.
The name of the temple is Wat Bhang Kran.
The name of the monk is Luang Pawh Ngun (Luang Phor Ngern)
which could be translated as monk father silver/money. He lived
earlier this century & is one of the most beloved & revered
monks in
Thai history. He is considered to be like a patron saint for protection,
good fortune & magic in one's life. There is a concept in shamanism
that believes if many minds believe something it gives the idea
power.
In this case tens of millions of people have a strong love &
belief
in the special magic & mysticism of this monk.
The
symbols & writing on the back can be read &
understood by the monks. It adds to the magic of the pendant.
The image looks like a spiral pagoda & is probably
an abstract of a Chaitya or Stupa which represents
the Buddhist universe. Each spire or step represents
a heaven, the uppermost portion being a point which is supposed
to be the highest peak of Mount Sumeru, a mythical mountain
whence the Boddhichitta loses itself in sunya or nirvana. Full
&
complete absorption into the absolute
cosmic source. The writing at the bottom is
the monks name & indicates that
the time
of his existence was special.
